Lab tests are usually ordered electronically by the doctor or nurse. E-orders are sent directly to the laboratory system, no paper form is required. You can go to any of the community collection centres to have the test taken. For a list of collection centres, please refer to either of the buttons below.
Awanui Labs Canterbury HealthRoutine procedures and test results are often available within 48 hours. Results for procedures such as: Minor surgery, Skin Lesions, Cervical Swabs, Pipelle Biopsy can take up to 10 – 14 days. You should be advised at the time of your test approximately how long it should take to get your results.
Should your results be abnormal, you will be contacted by your doctor, or the nurse after the results have been reviewed by the doctor. Please make sure your contact details are up to date. If you have not heard about your results in the expected time frame, please contact the practice.
If you are enrolled on our patient portal, ManageMyHealth, you will be able to access all your results online, after the doctor has reviewed them.
Please note that it is our policy not to routinely contact patients to advise results that are normal. If you are registered for the patient portal you can check online.
If you have specific concerns you can speak to a nurse over the phone, the easiest way to do this is to call 332 1351. The receptionist will take your details and arrange for the nurse to call you back.
